POETRY COMPETITION
Our annual Poetry Competition is just around the corner! The finals will be held in Week 5, so it’s
time to help your child select the poem that they will recite to the class. Our
class competition will take place in Week 4 (date to be confirmed) where each
child will present their poem of choice to a captive audience – our class and
parents! While this can seem daunting
for some children, each year we are amazed at the confidence the children
develop and just how amazing they are in their presentations.
A note to children....
We look forward to you presenting your poem to the class. We would like the name of the poem you have
chosen by FRIDAY 5th of
AUGUST. This way we know you are on your way! If you have trouble
selecting a poem, then check out the links on our website or come and see us –
we can help choose one together.
When choosing your poem, think about the following things…
• Is my poem
long enough? Short poems are over too quickly and long poems can be hard to
memorise!
• Can I learn
this off by heart? We
encourage children to recite their poems off by heart – but we can have a copy
for you find your nerves taking over!
• Props can be
interesting but they can also be a hindrance! Your voice and body
language can be the best ‘props’ you have
• Keep a steady
pace – Don't go too fast!
• Practise, practise, and
practise - it helps you relax if you know you are well
prepared.
• Speak clearly enough so that every
word can be heard - this is really tricky when you're
nervous in front of an audience!
We look forward to doing a lot of practise in class – but it is
important that you do some practise at home each night!
