Dog Safety

Today we had the City Council talk about dog safety. The instructor Lucy brought her awesome dog Poppy as a demonstration!  Caitlyn, Milan and Olivia from Room 15 and Joe, Alyssa and Marley got to pat Poppy the cute dog! Here are some of our images.

We learnt to ask the owner first before stroking it. We had to pretend to stroke it by making our hand into a rock shape. Lucy told us that the chest is best.

Wacky Mufti Day

Today Rimu used their imaginations and creativity to come to school looking really wacky! We also raised a lot of money for a good cause - the Cancer Research charity.

Eco House

Room 15 visited Kairu's house to find out what an eco house is and how houses can be built to be energy efficient and 'kind' on the environment. Below are some of the things that the children found interesting.

Arabella - the kitchen bench top was made out of recycled paper and each layer was made up of 100 sheets.

Harry - they used a tree that had fallen down on the West Coast to make the timbers for the outside walls.

Matthew - the pipes take all the 'grey' water to 2 filter tanks so that it can be cleaned and reused.

Georgia - water from the sink drained into the toilet system so that it could be reused when you flush the toilet.

Annabel - the fancy light shades were made out of recycled cardboard.

We also found it really interesting to see how Kairu's family used an app to monitor how much power they were generating using their solar panels on the roof. On the day we went it was very cloudy and they still generated some of their own power, but had to top up their power from the power company. When Kairu's dad turned on the kettle we could see straight away that they were using more power from the power company.

Learning the recorder...

We have been learning the recorder in our arts interchange programme! Today Room 17 learnt this familiar tune ... can you guess it?
Do you know what a crochet, a double quaver or a mimim is?

Practise this tune at home for our next session....

Buzz Groups

Rimu got together to share their oral language news in Buzz Groups on Wednesday. It was great to see the children that had clearly come prepared to share an item on the current week's topic.

Welcome back....

Welcome back to you all!  We hope you had a great holiday and are recharged ready for a new term!  Today we will begin the new term with a powhiri at 9.30.

Reading Exchange
Room 15 and 16 will continue to exchange children for reading this term, as part of working collaboratively to best meet the needs of our learners.  We will either email or talk to you in person to let you know if this includes your child.  Please make sure that reading happens EVERY night!  It is important that this includes either the class reader or your child's own choice of books.

Enjoy the start to the term!

Stationery List

Please can you check the stationery list below to see if your child requires anything for the beginning of the new term.  It is really important to be well stocked with named equipment, as we often work in different classes within our hub. If you write your child’s name on their pens, pencils etc with a vivid and put a piece of sellotape over the top it prevents the name from rubbing off.

Stationery checklist
It is important that you have your own named equipment at school. Most items can be purchased from the office. Tick any items you need.
